Most, if not all, of these answers are specific to Federal or Washington State tax matters.  For any additional questions, please refer to the IRS website in their Frequently Asked Questions.

Can you send a copy of my tax return to someone for me?

Federal law prohibits us from disclosing your information to a third party without your written consent. If you would like us to send a copy of your tax return to someone such as your bank or to discuss your tax information with someone such as your financial planner or broker, you must sign a consent form. You can download one from here.  Please complete it, sign it and mail, email, or fax it to us.

Where's my refund?

If you have not received your refund or the amount is not what you expected, contact the IRS at 1-800-829-4477. Alternatively, visit the IRS website at www.irs.gov and select the "Where's my refund?" link.

 

For amended returns, you'll access this IRS page. You will need the taxpayer's social security number, date of birth and zip code. Processing of an amended return is estimated to take up to 12 weeks, but could be longer.

What is the IRA (Individual Retirement Account) contribution limit?

For 2023:
Regular: $6, 500
Catch-up: $1,000 ​


Note: Individuals who will be at least age 50 by the end of the year can make additional catch-up contributions.

What are the rules for converting my traditional IRA into a Roth IRA?

After 2009 the there is no income limit for making a conversion.

Who has to report non-employee compensation to the IRS (Form 1099-Misc)?

The general rule is that companies who paid non-employee compensation issue a Form 1099-Misc to individuals and partnerships, but not to corporations.

What are the current mileage rates?

For 2023

Business: 65¢

Charitable: 14¢

Medical and Moving: 22¢

 What is the annual gift tax exclusion?

$15,000 in 2018-2021

$16,000 in 2022

$17,000 in 2023

Generally this gift is neither taxable to the recipient nor deductible by the giver.

What forms do I need to start a business in Washington State?

As you begin the process of starting your own business you will need to file with the federal government, the State of Washington, and various cities where you will conduct business.

At the federal level you will need a federal identification number, obtainable by filing an SS-4 form online

The State of Washington will require a Master Business Application.
